Spring is in the air!

This season, the MindSpace Clinic is excited to announce a new collaboration with HappyTree Yoga, our neighbour in Westmount and our partner in bringing mindfulness to our community. Located on Sainte Catherine near Atwater, HappyTree is a warm and welcoming studio committed to providing a space where the mind, body and spirit can grow and flourish.

HappyTree and MindSpace share a dedication to promoting health and wellbeing in our community, making collaboration between the two centres a natural fit. This spring, the MindSpace Clinic is pleased to be presenting two mindfulness programs at HappyTree.

Introduction to Mindfulness Workshop

On Saturday April 5, anyone who is seeking a little mind space this spring is invited to join us for a 2-hour mindfulness and meditation workshop. If you’re interested in learning to meditate or simply in being more present in your day-to-day life, join MindSpace assistant director Dr. Sarah Roberts for an introduction to the benefits of mindfulness meditation. The afternoon workshop is an opportunity to practice guided meditation and to learn tools for reducing stress and anxiety, boosting mood, and improving overall health and quality of life.

The workshop is open to everyone: seasoned meditators will have the opportunity to practice in a welcoming new community, and beginners will experience a taste of the peace and calm that meditation can create. Dr. Roberts will also discuss some of the challenges of meditating and provide tips on how to incorporate mindfulness and meditation into your busy schedule.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

This April, the MindSpace Clinic is offering our popular mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program at HappyTree. MBSR is an 8-week introduction to mindfulness via guided meditation, group dialogue, and home practice. Participants gain new skills to help them manage stress with calm and equanimity. They learn to live in the present moment and to appreciate everyday moments of pleasure and joy.

MBSR at HappyTree will be taught by Kersti Sunne Biro, who has trained with the MBSR teacher training program created by MBSR founder Jon Kabat-Zinn. Kersti has has been teaching MBSR at MindSpace for three years; her calm and supportive presence allows MBSR participants to integrate the program material and develop their personal mindfulness practice at their own pace.
