More about the Mindful Attitudes

Your intentions set the stage for what is possible.

– Jon Kabat-Zinn, Full Catastrophe Living

In his best-selling book Full Catastrophe Living, MBSR founder Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn describes seven interdependent attitudes that constitute the pillars of mindfulness practice: non-judging, patience, trust, letting go, beginner’s mind, acceptance, and non-striving. These attitudes are qualities of heart and mind that support and inform mindfulness practice on and off the cushion. Kabat-Zinn later added two more essential attitudes: generosity and gratitude. Each of these attitudes can be consciously practiced during mindfulness meditation.
